The next stop on superfast internet connectivity provider Lightning Broadband's national expansion is Canberra, with the first connections to be live by the middle of this year.
The company's initial presence in the ACT will be in Gungahlin, one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. Lightning Broadband recently signed an agreement for a project at Jade Gungahlin, which will boast 167 luxuriously appointed apartments and 5 retail premises over 14 levels.
Jade Gungahlin residents and tenants will not only enjoy stunning mountain and water views and the convenience of living in Gungahlin Town Centre, they'll also have access to broadband that will be the envy of others.
Each apartment and commercial space will be Lightning Broadband provisioned, meaning residents and tenants can move in, plug in a compatible router and then choose from a range of plans offering speeds of up to 500Mbps - upload and download - and with no data caps. A 1Gbps/1Gbps business plan is also available.
Lightning's initial services will extend beyond just this building - a tower will be installed on its rooftop beaming blistering fast connectivity across the surrounding area.
"It's very exciting to be establishing a presence in our nation's capital," said CEO Jeremy Rich. "This is the first of many projects we expect to be undertaking in Canberra and across the A.C.T."
National Expansion Accelerates
Privately-owned and not affiliated with the NBN, Lightning Broadband stormed onto Australia’s internet connectivity scene in 2016. Initially focusing on the Melbourne market, the company now has dozens of towers across that city as well as dozens of apartment buildings in Melbourne with its Fibre-To-The-Building (FTTB) technology installed.
Lightning Broadband's national expansion has been supported by a substantial funding facility provided by River Capital, announced in September last year.
The company's internet access solutions have been a hit with apartment developers as well as residents, as Lightning Broadband infrastructure, monitoring and maintenance is provided at zero cost. This arrangement can save developers and body-corporates many thousands of dollars compared to the NBN. In addition to internet connectivity, Lightning Broadband also offers VoIP services, building control and virtual PABX solutions.
Outside of the Melbourne metropolitan area, the company has also recently expanded into Geelong, Sydney and Perth - and Lightning Broadband has Brisbane in its sights next.
